VENUS IN FUR

Set in the single location of a theatre (with only two characters), on a stormy night a woman arrives late and unannounced to audition for a new play based on a famous literary work. At first the director is annoyed by her and she doesn't come across as a serious actress - but she is persuasive and reveals a solid grasp of the material (and knowledgeable on many other matters).
As they read through the play, she slowly spins a seductive web around him, drawing them into the book's sado-masochistic theme of obsession and manipulation, bringing it to life.
A very intelligent, entertaining, tantalizing, well-crafted and -acted movie that keeps you engaged with the minimalist characters and setting (as if you're watching a play), digging deeply into gender roles, relationships, emotion and domination.
Emmanuelle Seigner is still very sexy, Polanski's cinematic relationship with her (and beyond) starting with Frantic, also including Bitter Moon and The Ninth Gate.
French with English subtitles (but that shouldn't be a deterent at all)
